YAMA! YAMA!

AIRY is located in Kofu city - lying in the Kofu Basin and surrounded by Mount Fuji directly to the south, Mount Kimpu to the north and Mount Shirane and Mount Kai-koma.  During my residency I would climb onto the apartment roof for sunrise and sunset, hoping to catch a glimpse of the snow topped peak of Fuji.  It was in this place that the 'mountain' became bedded deep into my self and a symbol for me to use in drawings.  The title YAMA! YAMA! at it's simplest is the cry I gave the first time I saw Fuji on the rooftop - in english Mountain! Mountain!  For me that moment will forever be with me and the work I produced at AIRY was in hommage to that first sighting.
