Surface Tensions

Canberra Contemporary Art Space Manuka

Surface Tensions is an exhibition presenting a series of paintings and objects based on a residency in Chiang Mai, Thailand and travel throughout China and Japan. Abstract oil paintings on perspex are a stripped back reference to the spirit houses found throughout Thailand while floating acrylic clouds are engraved with traditional motifs found in Chinese and Japanese art.  The outsider is only ever able to view the surface regardless of how hard they try to plumb the depths.
